Now that we are all more aware of the risks, we have the tools at our disposal to assist in flattening the curve!
Since the onset of the Covid 19 pandemic which landed on our shores earlier in the year, there doesn’t seem to be a definitive end to the crisis in the foreseeable future. With this in mind, and the various levels of lockdown restrictions being eased over the last month to open the economy up, one shouldn’t be complacent and one needs to be cautious and not drop your guard in the defence against the virus.
Flick recommends Antimicrobial ULV treatments as one of the tools in your toolkit to fight the virus!
Microbial misting with the correct and approved disinfectant agent that we use is both safe and effective. Flick makes use of a Chlorine Dioxide based disinfectant agent that is approved by the SABS and NRCS, and the active ingredient is further listed and approved by the US EPA.
The disinfectant is applied in a fine mist with an ultra-low volume mist, or ULV. The biocide particles in the mist are so small that they remain suspended in the air long enough to kill airborne viruses and bacteria. The biocide also eliminates pathogens on surfaces, including ceilings and walls as well as furniture and floors where it has been applied.
An advantage with the antimicrobial treatment is that the disinfectant agent reaches areas that may be difficult to clean with other techniques. Penetration into some nooks and crannies may be limited by obstacles, but in most cases it’s not necessary to move furniture or equipment around before or during the cleaning process. Drawers and cupboards would need to be open to ensure effective penetration
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DISINFECTION AND DECONTAMINATION?
Disinfection is a process of cleaning something, especially with a chemical in order to destroy bacteria.
Decontaminating is to neutralize or remove dangerous substances and germs from an area or object.
WHO CAN RENDER DISINFECTION SERVICES?
To our knowledge, there are no regulations in place set out by Government in regulating who is able to undertake antimicrobial disinfection or sanitization services/ applications in South Africa.
With this said, Flick cautions you in who you procure to undertake such services for you, as there are individuals that have exploited the situation and have used the opportunity to render these services with staff that may be unqualified in using the equipment they utilize, and secondly, we have heard of unsafe sanitizing solutions being applied, as well as even normal pool chlorine being used, which is completely wrong.
All of Flick’s registered service technicians are registered with the Department of Agriculture and are trained in the safe use of the equipment that is used to apply the disinfectant, namely with the ULV misting unit, as well as being trained in using swing fog fogging machines, of which some untrained individuals not within our company have used during this pandemic.
WHERE CAN THIS SERVICE BE APPLIED?
Flick has helped numerous companies and organizations during this time, and have deployed our disinfection service to industries such as corporate buildings, shopping centres, residential buildings, residential homes, old age homes, Churches, restaurants, beauty salons, HACCP food safety factories to name a few examples.
The disinfectant applied is even food-grade safe, and one can return to the area treated after approximately an hour, once the mist has dried sufficiently.
Flick does recommend that such services are maintained and reapplied as often as possible to reduce the risk and spread of the virus, but we do also recommend that clients need to maintain and keep on sanitizing their premises high touch point areas on a day to day basis, such as door handles, door frames, tabletops, keyboards, mouse/ mousepads, telephones, light switches, remotes etc to maintain these surfaces sanitized.
